OverviewThis role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit developing Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. The position supports the development of pumps for water, coolant, and propellant systems as part of NASA’s Artemis mission. Engineers will engage in a multidisciplinary design cycle and play a critical role in delivering safe, low‑cost, and reusable space vehicle hardware.
Responsibilities- Engage in the entire design cycle of pumps including conceptual design, thermo‑fluid modeling, structural analysis, integration, test, and mission support.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define requirements, dependencies, and schedule needs associated with delivering pumps.
- Lead team‑based identification, decomposition, and estimation of work scope for full‑lifecycle pump hardware development.
- Manage project schedule, resources, and cost, presenting status—including risks, variances, and recovery plans—to program management.
- Work to continuously improve team processes and manage team assignments to meet human space flight standards.
- Perform procurement, integration support, and discrepancy resolution.
- Oversee component and subsystem level testing including test planning, execution, data reduction, and analysis.
- Create and modify drawings, specifications, and other documentation.
- Support procurement activities to support vehicle build schedules.
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- 3+ years of industry experience in detailed design, development of aerospace or equivalent‑type fluid systems, and project management.
- Strong knowledge of pumps.
- Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes and quality control relative to pumps and machined components.
- Working knowledge of materials and treatments.
- Experience leading at least one multi‑person development project, managing requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, cost, and communications.
- Experience and ability to work independently on rapid development programs.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E) and PLM (Windchill).
- Knowledge in the use of FEA analysis tools (ANSYS preferred).
- Experience with high pressure and cryogenic systems.
- Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
