The City of Renton is seeking a skilled and motivated engineering professional to serve as a FOG Inspector within the Wastewater Utility Engineering Division. This position plays a key role in administering the City's Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) Source Control Program through on-site field inspections of commercial food facilities, technical plan review of grease interceptors, educating business owners and kitchen staff on proper grease handling and pre-treatment best practices before disposal, and maintaining compliance data in the City's GIS and tracking systems.

Salary placement depends on the education, experience, and skill set of the incumbent.

Annual Salary Engineering Specialist 1: $76,092.00 - $92,724.00 Annually

Annual Salary Engineering Specialist 2: $88,188.00 - $ Annually

Annual Salary Engineering Specialist 3: $97,368.00 - $ Annually

Essential functions for Engineering Specialist 1 include:

• Research issues and provide technical information; communicate with engineers and other specialists, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and City personnel to coordinate work activities and projects.
• Assist with the review of architectural and engineering plans and drawings for small construction projects within the City to assure compliance with City ordinances and policies; indicate deficiencies with corrective action guidelines.
• Compile information and assist Civil Engineers and II/III level Engineering Specialists as requested.
• Prepare, review, and maintain a variety of office and engineering records, reports, maps, and as-built drawings related to civil engineering operations and activities; update and file maps and plans.
• Prepare and review legal descriptions for ordinances, petitions, annexations, deeds, easements, and related activities.
• Review and respond to public requests and complaints regarding assigned areas and engineering-related matters.
• Answer technical questions and resolve issues and concerns with the public, contractors, and outside agencies.
• Provide preliminary plan review and permit processing information from predesign through construction for small projects.
• Visit proposed sites as needed to evaluate on-site and off-site conditions, such as drainage and traffic issues for proposed developments.
• Assist with the review and approval process of construction cost estimates to establish permit fees, performance bond amounts, maintenance bond amounts, and fees-in-lieu of construction amounts.
• In support of the Transportation Operations section only, operate automated computer-aided drafting (CAD) software and hardware; operate manual drafting machine, tools and equipment using modern principles and techniques.

Essential functions for Engineering Specialist 2 include:

• Perform a variety of independent and specialized activities related to assigned area of engineering studies and capital improvement projects.
• Design and/or review engineering plans for various economic development, utility, or transportation projects to assure compliance and compatibility with existing systems and applicable codes, standards, specifications, and practices.
• Occasionally manage small-scale private development or capital improvement projects; which may include preparing bid documents, drafting RFP/RFQ documents, pay estimates, processing change orders and federal reimbursement requests; approving plan changes, answering technical questions, and resolving issues and concerns with the public, contractors, and outside agencies.
• Organize pre-construction meetings with developers, contractors, and City personnel; establish guidelines and special conditions for construction projects within limits of codes and regulations; direct interagency coordination of contracts; monitor contractors and developers for work projects in progress.
