Program Development Coordinator 2

The City of Renton's Public Works department is recruiting to fill a Program Development Coordinator 2 in the Transportation Systems Division. The Transportation Systems Division includes the Traffic Operations & Signal, Roadway Design and Bridge, and Transportation Planning sections. This senior-level position within the Transportation Planning Section will support key transportation initiatives, including roadway, nonmotorized, and pavement rehabilitation projects; grant administration;

capital budget planning; and coordination of capital project delivery.

The role will also assist with transportation capital budgets, budget processes, and the Commute Trip Reduction Program, including marketing and employer surveys. An engineering degree is not required, but engineering experience or licensure may support assignment of engineering-related duties. Traffic engineering experience is preferred but not required.

In this role you will:

  • Lead planning activities and technical analyses within the Transportation Planning section.
  • Manage tasks or components of transportation planning studies, with a focus on multi-modal system planning and integration.
  • Provide strategic input and direction on transportation initiatives aligned with citywide goals.
  • Oversee the Transportation Capital Improvement Program for the Transportation Systems Division.
  • Prepare the annual Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program, including comprehensive project descriptions, cost estimates, scheduling, and funding forecasts.
  • Recommend capital allocations and monitor program revenues and expenditures across federal, state, local, and private funding sources.
  • Assist with the development and administration of the division budget.
  • Coordinate construction scheduling, financing, and short-range planning with regional partners including WSDOT, METRO, King County, and adjacent cities.
  • Facilitate interagency collaboration to ensure timely and efficient project delivery.
  • Lead grant program development, submission, and compliance activities.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure timely execution of grant-related tasks, including Transportation Improvement Board arterial deficiency ratings.
  • Track program and project progress to ensure adherence to schedules, budgets, and legal requirements.
  • Monitor fee accounts to support timely project initiation and financial accountability.
  • Support the development, coordination, and implementation of transportation policies within the City's Comprehensive Plan.
  • Collaborate with consultants, internal departments, and external agencies to advance program goals.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to elected officials, community groups, and stakeholders.
  • Represent the City as a liaison to public and private organizations, ensuring alignment with transportation program objectives and regulations.
  • Prepare position papers, memoranda, and technical reports.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for assigned programs and initiatives.
  • Contribute to an environment of teamwork and respect.
  • Foster a culture of equity and inclusion by recognizing the diverse needs and perspectives of groups and individuals.
  • Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to field.
  • Participate in and help provide cross-training in processes as directed by management to ensure a well-rounded team for coverage purposes.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • May be assigned to support City priorities during emergencies.
