Location:

Natural Resources Building, Olympia, WA. Salary: $4,108.00 – $5,506.00 Monthly. The salary range includes a general wage increase of 2% for all state employees effective July 1, 2026.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within the WFMD Incident Business group as a Fire Fiscal Analyst 1. The Fiscal Analyst 1 works closely with other team members to analyze various reports, conduct research, and compile documents related to Wildland Fire expenditures and Fire Management Assistant Grant (FMAG) claims. Another key duty is performing day-to-day fiscal tasks, including coding, preparing payable requests, and reviewing outstanding receivables.

The position also assists with fiscal year-end tasks for the Wildland Fire Management Division and provides backup support during periods of high workload.

Responsibilities
  • Compile and analyze documentation for Wildland Fire Expenditures associated with Fire Management Assistance Grants (FMAG).
  • Review and code Wildland Fire payables and prepare invoice payment requests (IPR).
  • Assist with special projects as assigned: ad hoc reports, documentation retrieval, assistance with fiscal year-end close, and gathering documentation for litigation requests.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications: You must meet all the required qualifications and competencies to be considered for this position.   • One (1) year of relevant experience in accounting, budgeting, finance, or payroll, or a combination of relevant experience and/or education.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • Collect and organize financial data in accordance with prescribed guidance.
  • Effectively prioritize tasks by importance and urgency to ensure key responsibilities are fulfilled.

  • Understand basic accounting procedures like journal entry creation (including preparation of supporting documentation), debits/credits, and review and running basic reports.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to function in a high-performing team.

Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:

  • Works in an open cubicle located on the 4th floor of the Natural Resources building and is subject to noise and interruptions.
  • Periodic visits to DNR facilities may be required, but will generally remain in Thurston County.
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate degree (to include 18 quarter or 12 semester hours of accounting, auditing, or budget management credits).
  • Experience using Washington state financial systems, such as the Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS), FES, and Natur

  • User-end experience with Workday or similar ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems.
  • Proficiency in applications such as Microsoft Teams, Microsoft SharePoint, and basic Microsoft Excel formulas.
