VP of Finance – Commercial Contractor - Washington DC Metro Area Company Overview
Our client is a mid-size commercial contractor based in the Washington, DC/Baltimore metro area. The company is stable, profitable, and highly respected, known for a long-tenured team and an ethical, relationship-driven approach.
Position OverviewThe VP Finance is the senior accounting and finance leader, reporting to the President. The role combines hands-on Controller ownership with a broader leadership and business-partnering remit, split between core accounting and finance leadership, and higher-level planning, risk, and decision support for the President and ownership.
What the Role InvolvesCore Accounting and Finance
- Ownership of monthly, quarterly, and annual close, and accurate internal financial reporting
- Job-cost accounting, WIP schedules, and revenue recognition
- Cash management, banking relationships, and internal controls
- Involvement in an active ERP transition
Strategic and Business Partnering
- Producing clear management reporting that explains performance, cash position, risk, and key issues directly to the President and ownership
- Leading annual budgeting and variance analysis, with proportionate forecasting and KPI development
- Partnering with operations on project profitability reviews, improving the quality and usefulness of financial information across the business
- Translating detailed financial data into practical insight that supports senior-level decision making
- Contributing financial analysis and judgment to important business decisions as they arise
- Leading and developing a small accounting team, including addressing performance issues directly
- Strong technical accounting background; construction experience required
- Comfortable working hands-on in detailed accounting, not just managing through others
- Experience leading a small team
- CPA or public accounting background a plus but not required
This is an office-based leadership role. The company offers the opportunity to lead the finance function of a stable, respected business and work directly with the President and ownership.
