Position Overview
Full time commissioned position within the Island County Sheriff's Office requiring a Civil Service Examination. Under general supervision, the entry level Patrol Deputy performs general duty police work with a shift or unit of the Sheriff's Office, protecting life and property, enforcing laws and ordinances, and preserving order within the community.
Application & Civil Service ProcessQualified candidates are entered on the Civil Service eligible register. Vacancies are filled by the "rule of five," with the top five eligibles forwarded to the appointing authority (Sheriff) for interview and background investigation. All appointments are subject to successful completion of a one-year probationary period.
Minimum Qualifications- Minimum age of 21 years (no maximum age).
- Valid Washington State driver's license.
- High school graduate or GED certification.
- United States citizen or lawful permanent resident who can read and write English.
