Job OverviewPerform routine blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques from patients of all age groups; collect specimens for urine drug screens and paternity collection; process specimens for testing; accurately complete paperwork and data entry associated with these specimens.
Responsibilities- Follow established protocols for processing specimens for testing and sending out to reference labs.
- Confirm patient identity, label and transport specimens according to protocol.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures, including finger sticks on adults/children and heel sticks on infants.
- Enter and receive laboratory testing requests in computer systems.
- Process blood bank specimens and deliver components to patient care areas.
- Fax, print and deliver reports.
- Answer the phone within 3 rings using proper telephone technique and established scripts.
- Use laboratory and hospital computer systems to look up results, place orders and address queries.
- Complete all documentation required for registration on outpatients for both the hospital and outreach.
- Collect and process urine drug screens per established protocols.
- Monitor work with logs (pending, specimen unreceived, error log reports) and perform mandatory reporting.
- Maintain a clean, adequately stocked work area.
- Perform any additional tasks as assigned.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year experience in a clinical lab processing department or certification from an accredited Clinical Lab Assistant Program.
- Active Washington State MA‑P License.
- Preferred:
Minimum 1 year of phlebotomy experience. - Computer and data entry skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a positive, team-oriented atmosphere.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and assist co‑workers to meet turnaround times.
- Capability to perform job duties without direct supervision.
- Professional and friendly interaction with a diverse range of customers.
- Effective communication and work skills with all age groups.
