Description
Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD) is seeking a collaborative and forward‑thinking Director of Agency Technology Services to provide strategic and tactical leadership across the organization’s technology landscape. This role is responsible for guiding the planning, development, and implementation of both long‑ and short‑term technology initiatives in alignment with agency priorities and equitable outcomes. The Director ensures technology services comply with state requirements and industry best practices, while overseeing the agency’s regional role in supporting the K–20 network and partnering with member districts to strengthen and advance technical capabilities.
EssentialFunctions
- Collaborates with key partners, PSESD staff, and member districts to gather and convey information that informs decision‑making on technology solutions supporting business and educational operations.
- Develops and implements long‑ and short‑range strategic plans for hardware and software systems, communications infrastructure, and technology governance to align services with organizational goals, ensure efficient operations, and proactively address cybersecurity risks and responsible AI use.
- Develops and monitors departmental budgets and fiscal activities to provide services in conformance with ESD objectives and budget guidelines.
- Embodies the principles of an Antiracist Multicultural Organization, co‑creating just and humanizing educational communities where every student thrives.
- Establishes technology governance structures, systems, procedures, controls, training, and standards to direct, plan, and implement programs that ensure uninterrupted delivery of services, including business continuity and disaster recovery planning, in accordance with legal, financial, and agency requirements.
- Manages vendor relationships to ensure timely, cost‑effective, high‑quality services that support business operations and organizational objectives.
- Monitors and assesses PSESD technology services to ensure operations are efficient, service‑oriented, aligned with professional standards, and secured with appropriate controls.
- Provides consultation and support to member districts for expert guidance, recommendation, and implementation of technology solutions, including complex network and cybersecurity initiatives aligned with district needs and best practices.
- Provides strategic consultation and guidance to PSESD Leadership on technology planning and governance, informing decision‑making and recommending solutions that advance agency initiatives and objectives.
- Supervises information delivery programs and services to support data‑informed decision‑making and progress monitoring toward organizational objectives.
- Supervises personnel, providing coaching and consultation on technical issues, adaptive challenges, personnel matters, strategic opportunities, career goals, professional development, and job performance to develop effective leaders and high‑performing teams.
- Assists other personnel as required to maintain an efficient and effective work environment.
- Budget Forecasting and Administration

Develops budgets, monitors projected financial resources and expenditures, and ensures accurate and timely revisions. - Developing and Empowering Others

- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
- Associate’s degree combined with progressively responsible, directly related experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree.
- Relevant professional certification(s) (e.g., Microsoft Technical Certification, ITIL) or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
