Payroll Implementation Lead / Functional Consultant
Location:
Remote
Work timing: APAC/ EMEA
Role OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Payroll Implementation Lead / Functional Consultant with strong business analysis capabilities to support global payroll expansion initiatives. This role is not technical/configuration-focused but requires deep functional understanding of payroll processes, integrations, and end-to-end implementation lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience leading payroll implementations across ERP platforms and working closely with implementation partners and regional stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Lead end-to-end payroll implementation lifecycle including design, requirements gathering, testing, go-live, and hypercare
- Conduct and lead payroll requirement gathering workshops with regional stakeholders and payroll operations teams
- Collaborate with implementation partners/vendors to ensure accurate solution design and delivery
- Review and validate functional blueprints to ensure alignment with business requirements and identify gaps
- Act as the bridge between business, payroll operations, and IT/vendors
- Ensure proper understanding of payroll inputs and outputs, including integrations with:
- HR systems (e.g., Workday)
- Time & Attendance (T&A) systems
- Benefits platforms
- Finance systems
- Support UAT coordination and validation from a payroll perspective
- Participate in cutover planning and go-live readiness (non‑technical role)
- Work closely with local SMEs to gather country‑specific payroll requirements
- Proven experience in payroll implementation projects (end-to-end lifecycle)
- Strong understanding of global payroll processes and operations
- Experience working with ERP-based payroll systems (SAP preferred; other ERP systems acceptable)
- Hands‑on experience working with implementation vendors/partners
- Strong BA skillset requirements gathering, documentation, validation
- Experience leading workshops and stakeholder discussions
- Knowledge of payroll integrations across enterprise systems
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Exposure to payroll implementations in EMEA countries such as:
- Austria, Denmark, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Portugal
- Experience working in regional/global payroll transformation programs
- Familiarity with Workday as HR system of record
- Someone similar to a Payroll Functional Lead / Workstream Lead, not a technical configurator
- Strong communicator who can lead workshops and drive discussions independently
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and coordinate across multiple stakeholders and vendors
- Confident in managing small‑market country rollouts with local SME support
- Prior experience with SAP Payroll (as a benchmark)
- Multi-country payroll exposure (EMEA or APAC)
- This is a functional, non-technical role (no configuration or development work)
- Candidate must be comfortable working in regional time zones (EMEA or APAC)
- Strong emphasis on communication, coordination, and ownership of deliverables
