Project Manager II – Rail & Transit | Signals, Communications & Train Control

We are representing an established engineering consultancy in the search for a Project Manager II to join its Rail & Transit – Signals, Communications & Train Control team in Washington, DC.
This is an opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to take ownership of mid-sized rail and transit projects
, overseeing project delivery, client relationships, financial performance, schedules, resources and multidisciplinary teams.
The successful candidate will combine strong project management experience with a solid understanding of rail/transit signals, communications or train control systems and will play an important role in developing existing client relationships and supporting future business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the delivery of mid-sized rail and transit engineering projects from planning through completion.
- Manage scope, schedule, budget, resources and project financial performance
. - Coordinate multidisciplinary technical teams and delegate work effectively to engineers and technical staff.
- Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring a high level of client satisfaction.
- Identify project risks, scope changes and potential issues, taking proactive steps to maintain successful delivery.
- Coordinate with technical and discipline leads to ensure high-quality project deliverables.
- Oversee QA/QC processes and ensure compliance with contractual and engineering requirements.
- Manage project forecasts, budgets, staffing and resource plans.
- Identify opportunities for additional scope, change orders and follow-on work.
- Support proposals, fee development, scopes of work and resource planning.
- Strengthen existing client relationships and contribute to repeat business and account growth.
- Mentor and provide day-to-day guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.
- 10+ years of progressive engineering experience
, ideally within the rail and transit sector. - 4+ years of project management experience
, including responsibility for projects, teams, clients and budgets. - Professional Engineering (
PE
) license required. - Experience with in signals, communications, train control or related rail/transit systems
. - Proven ability to deliver projects on time, within budget and to required quality standards.
- Experience managing project financials, resources, schedules and scope.
- Strong client-facing and relationship management skills.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Ability to identify opportunities for additional work and support business development within existing accounts.
- Experience with proposals, scopes, budgets and fee development is highly desirable.
- Strong communication, leadership and mentoring capabilities.
