The hours for this appointment may include weekdays, weekends and evenings and is subject to change based on the Library’s current, operational need. A pay period is two weeks in length that starts on Wednesday and ends on Tuesday.

The facilities of The Seattle Public Library include the 363,000 square foot Central Library, 26 branch libraries, and an 18,000 square foot storage facility totaling approximately 613,000 square feet. While the Library’s Facilities Maintenance Services department handles day-to-day building maintenance, the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) plans and manages the more complex, time-intensive major asset maintenance and facility projects, often requiring the use of specialized contract services such as architecture, engineering, construction (AEC) and specialty trades, including the City of Seattle’s job order contractor.

This position will work independently to complete assigned CIP projects on time and budget from start to finish by working with project stakeholders to define programming needs and manage design, construction, and vendor contracts. This position will prepare cost estimates, budgets and schedules for potential projects as well as approved ones. The position will maintain and ensure effective project communications among all team members and stakeholders, represent The Seattle Public Library and CIP at project meetings, and will work with CIP administrative staff to close out projects, complete final punch lists, confirm warranties, and receive final documentation.

General work is performed in a normal City work/office environment, but includes field visits to construction sites, climbing ladders, walking attic spaces and rooftops. Work will occasionally be performed in inclement weather, and may require protective gear (safety helmet, safety glasses, appropriate clothing and hard-soled shoes) based on environment. This position may require use of a City Motor Pool Vehicle and/or personal vehicle (with mileage reimbursement) when frequent travel to project locations is required.
