Job Title:
Registered Nurse – ED – 1900‑13 – $10k Sign‑on incentive
Location:
VMC Main Campus, Renton, WA
Shift: Nights (1900–0730), Full Time, FTE 0.9
Job OverviewThe staff RN is a licensed professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame. This individual provides safe, quality care to these patients utilizing the nursing process as the basis for clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities- Assess, guide, direct, and facilitate workflow on the unit.
- Make staff assignments reflecting patient acuity, continuity of patient care, and staff competency.
- Mentor staff, float, and agency personnel regarding unit policies and procedures.
- Integrate new staff and agency staff into the unit culture.
- Act as a leadership and role model for clinical staff.
- Serve as a clinical resource, demonstrating safe use of patient care equipment.
- Identify resource RN for LPN, PCA, and MST as necessary.
- Monitor and evaluate nursing care given to each patient by direct observation, consultation, and rounds.
- Assess unit/environmental safety during patient rounds and correct deficiencies.
- Maintain awareness of Joint Commission standards, state codes and practice acts.
- Enforce documentation compliance and facilitate rapid turn‑around cycles.
- Provide excellent customer service, respond to patient/family concerns, and report significant events.
- Document performance appraisal input for clinical staff on shift.
- Provide adequate break coverage.
- Maintain fiscal responsibility by monitoring staffing and determining shift staffing needs.
- Maintain personal competencies for direct patient care and team leadership.
- Collaborate with bed placement and clinical resources to expedite placement.
- Act as the unit charge nurse when required.
- BSN preferred; current RN license in Washington.
- Successful completion of a graduate nurse residency program orientation or at least six months' RN experience.
- American Heart Association BLS for healthcare providers required.
- ACLS & PALS within 3 months of hire; NIHSS certification within 3 months; TNCC within 12 months; ENPC certification within 12 months.
- Experience:
One year in emergency nursing preferred or successful completion of ED residency. - Leadership skills, clinical judgment, innovation, and systems thinking.
- Effective communication skills, oral and written.
- Adherence to professional appearance policy.
- Compassionate, community‑centered interpersonal skills for diverse populations.
- Ability to communicate across all age groups.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Practice within ANA standards and Nurse Practice Act.
- Electronic environment proficiency (order entry, e‑mail, documentation).
- Self‑directed in continuing education and research.
Patient handling capacity up to 40 lb, need for lifting, operating patient lifting equipment, stoop, bend, reach, crouch, squat, standing/walking for long periods, full range of motion, dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, corrected vision/hearing.
