Salary Range: $27.34–$43.61 per hour (DOE)
Job OverviewA Patient Care Assistant performs routine nursing services under the supervision of a professional nurse or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR).
ReportingReports to:
Nurse Manager / Assistant Nurse Manager
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in Washington State.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
- One year of patient care experience (preferred).
- MA – Phlebotomy certification required or obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Capable of comprehending, executing, and acting within scope of practice.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills with a diverse population.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals of all age groups.
Record and report significant patient signs and symptoms, patient condition changes, equipment alarms, and concerns related to patient or family behavior. Maintain safe use of patient care equipment.
Essential Responsibilities and Competencies- Monitor and report to RN/LPN/CAR significant signs and symptoms such as changes in level of consciousness, mobility, breathing pattern, skin color, pain, swallowing difficulty, wound drainage, or output.
- Detect equipment alarms or malfunctions.
- Identify and communicate concerns about patient or family behavior, emotional status, or compliance.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergencies: cardiac/pulmonary arrest, psychiatric emergencies, postpartum hemorrhage (Birth Center), newborn emergencies (Birth Center).
- Demonstrate safe use of patient care equipment.
- Understand developmental and behavioral characteristics of age groups – neonate, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric.
- Perform phlebotomy as requested according to correct procedure.
- Maintain biannual phlebotomy certification.
- Perform chem strip procedure according to protocol.
