EAS has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Fisheries Technician to assist on a contract providing Biological Services to the US Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District.

We are currently looking to fill a full‑time Fisheries Technician role at Little Goose Dam near Lacrosse, Washington and Lower Granite Dam near Pullman, Washington with hours ranging from 32‑40 hours per week and the possibility of overtime. The pay for this position ranges from $22.34 to $29.67 per hour and will be based on factors such as experience, education, and location of the job site.

An additional $5.09 per hour may be added towards health and welfare dollars, which may be reduced if you participate in employer‑sponsored benefit plans. This position will start in mid‑March and last through November 15. Although the role is advertised for work at Little Goose and Lower Granite Dams, opportunities may arise at other sites such as McNary and Ice Harbor Dams, depending on project needs.

Housing may be provided for this position. The housing location is approximately 30 minutes from Little Goose Dam and about 60 minutes from Lower Granite Dam.

Essential Functions

(reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions):

  • Assist with sampling fish at USACE hydroelectric projects, including juvenile salmonid and non‑salmonid species identification, fin‑clip collection, weighing, measuring, and injury/disease assessment.
  • Accurately record information in spreadsheets and collate summaries for weekly and annual fish reports.
  • Conduct juvenile and adult fishway inspections of the dam and fish facility to ensure operations follow USACE Fish Passage Plan criteria.
  • Piscivorous avian predator identification.
  • Assist in the production of an accurate weekly report distributed to state and federal agencies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a natural resources field or a closely related discipline with relevant work experience.
  • Experience as a fisheries technician or biologist evaluating the health of juvenile salmonids.
  • Experience with fish handling, lake‑ or river‑based samplings, and anesthetizing fish.
  • Work experience at a large hydroelectric project smolt collection facility.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access) and ability to generate tables, prepare data deliverables, and write scientific reports.
  • Ability to work independently and take direction while collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and follow established protocols, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Ability to meet USACE requirements and security clearances for work at dam sites on the Snake and Columbia rivers, including completion of required online training.
  • Knowledge of fish species in the Snake and Columbia rivers.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, walking up to 5 miles per day, and working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Reliable transportation for commuting to remote locations.
  • Availability to work regular seasonal shifts (back‑up staffing is limited) and some overtime.
  • Willingness to start work early (on site by 06:30 and work until late morning or early afternoon).
  • Requirement to work weekends and/or holidays; typical schedule:
    Friday to Tuesday, with Friday to Sunday at Lower Granite Dam and Monday to Tuesday at Little Goose Dam.
  • Ability to adapt to variable work schedules.
