Utility Worker – Full Time with Benefits

Salary Range: $5,599/mo. – $7,559/mo.

Starting Salary: $5,599/mo. – $6,579/mo. (DOQ)

Soos Creek Water and Sewer District, a public agency located in Renton, WA, is accepting applications for the position of Utility Worker. Primary duties include assisting in most areas of maintaining, repairing, and inspecting water and/or sewer lines, pump stations, lift stations, and wet wells. Provides assistance in flushing lines and chlorinating water tanks. Assists with meter changes, trims, and insulation of meter boxes.

Maintenance of grounds, buildings, and equipment (main office, lift stations and pump stations). The applicant must be able to operate power equipment including mowers, weed eaters and other associated equipment used in landscaping and grounds maintenance, and perform manual tasks involving physical strength and endurance. Work is performed in the field with exposure to extreme weather conditions.

SCWSD is one of the largest Special Purpose Districts in Washington State, located in southwestern King County. The District is a public agency governed by an elected five-member Board of Commissioners. We purchase our water supply from Seattle Public Utilities via a long-term wholesale water supply contract. Our water service area covers approximately 16 square miles and serves more than 67,500 people.

Our sewer service area covers approximately 35 square miles, serving more than 114,000 people within portions of Kent, Renton, Covington, Black Diamond, Maple Valley and unincorporated King County.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of equipment and tools used in landscaping and grounds maintenance.
  • Good driving skills/driving record.
  • Learn how to properly tow a utility trailer.
  • Have good public relation skills.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Work harmoniously with the public and District employees.
  • Recognize what needs to be done and willingness to accomplish such work without direction on each task.
  • Quickly comprehend and carry out instructions, and work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Communicate with customers and to favorably represent the District to the public.
  • Maintain clear, concise and accurate records, and report on items that need attention.
  • Accept responsibility to the health and welfare of the community by performing the responsibilities of the job in a manner that will provide efficient service to the public.
  • Work in and around hazardous conditions, confined spaces, odd hours, traffic, toxic substances, fumes, dogs, outside elements – cold, heat, etc.
  • Perform manual tasks involving physical strength and endurance such as heavy lifting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, twisting and reaching.
  • Read and understand street maps and have a sense of direction.
  • Obtain a flagger card within 3 months of employment.
  • Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within 3 years of employment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license with a good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
