Position: Fire Alarm Project Technician 2

Overview

Convergint is looking for a full-time, enthusiastic, results-driven and forward-thinking Fire Alarm Technician to join our culture. This role involves installing, programming, system start-up/check-out, testing/commissioning, customer training and all associated documentation on assigned projects, including more complex projects. As a Fire Alarm Technician, you are part of a dynamic team that supports growth for both you and Convergint.

What You’ll Do
  • Install, program, test, repair and service a variety of systems and equipment, including fire alarm & life safety and related building automation with guidance as needed. Serve as the key interface for technical support and training for the customer and escalate more complex issues to higher-level colleagues.
  • Review blueprints, schematics, manuals, and specifications to determine installation procedures independently, with assistance for more complex cases.
  • Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams; repair equipment using electronics knowledge and standard test instruments and hand tools.
  • Understand building, mechanical, sprinkler and fire codes; coach and mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Operate systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance and identify malfunctions; write routine programs for systems.
  • Provide excellent customer service, ensuring Convergint is the customer’s first choice for service; consult with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance and warranty work.
  • Advise management on customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques and standards; contribute to product improvements ideas.
  • Execute the technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets, including programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation and ongoing technical support.
  • Identify potential project risks, communicate with stakeholders, and help develop strategies to minimize impacts and control deviations from estimates and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the Fire Alarm Designer to ensure the system meets codes and standards; coordinate with Project Manager and Operations Manager to improve quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as required.
What You’ll Need
  • Exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure; proactively meet customer needs.
  • Ability to convey complex subject matter to a non-technical audience.
  • Willingness to learn technical skills related to fire alarm systems and electronic security systems.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with little supervision.
  • Understanding of electronics, Ohm’s law, resistor codes, and relay logic for control of third-party equipment.
  • Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude; proficiency with hand and power tools (drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper).
  • Experience programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning Edwards or equivalent fire alarm systems of small to medium complexity.
  • Drive to obtain necessary certifications/licensing related to products, industry and location.
  • Willingness to coach and mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • NICET Level II in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Low voltage electrical license as required by local/state authority.
  • Ability to travel locally to jobsites on a regular basis; minimal overnight travel may be required.

Requirements

Education:

High School/GED or equivalent experience

  • Local/State Electrical License
  • NICET Level II - Fire Alarm Systems
Preferred Experience (not required)
  • Associate degree in Electronics or related field, including equivalent military experience
  • 3–5 years of relevant field service
  • EST4 Certification

The expected compensation range for this position is between $38 and $45 an hour, depending on experience.
