The Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Airfield Operations Program Manager leads Alaska Airlines’ mid- to long-term planning with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic organization and Airport Operators. This individual contributor builds and maintains strong relationships with FAA Air Traffic facilities and international Air Navigation Service Providers, while representing Alaska Airlines’ interests at key airport and ATC stakeholder meetings to address airspace safety and efficiency.
The role also manages relationships with Airport Operators across the network, focusing on airfield operations, safety, access, and efficiency.
- Serves as the subject matter expert and thought leader in ATC and Airfield Operations in managing airfield construction impacts on Alaska Airlines’ operations.
- Supports domestic and international new market development.
- Designs, advocates and implements cross-divisional needs and provides recommendations on airport master plans, national airspace changes, military airspace proposals, and noise studies.
- Represents Alaska Airlines at Air Traffic and Airport Safety Risk Management Panels and provides subject matter expertise in Airport Master Planning studies.
- Represents Alaska Air Group and Flight Operations at company/industry forums as an influential subject matter expert in air traffic management and airfield operations.
- Leads airspace safety and efficiency initiatives across Alaska Airlines’ network.
- Networks and influences relationships with internal and external stakeholders throughout Alaska Airlines’ route network aligning stakeholder interests related to airfield construction, NAVAID impacts, winter operations, and safety.
- Serves as backup to ATC Support Specialist for nav database changes, route updates, and chart management.
- Monitors emerging National Airspace System (NAS) technology changes and coordinates with Dispatch and IT to ensure tools and data capabilities support modern NAS operations.
- 7 years of airport operations, air traffic management, airline operational, or equivalent aviation experience.
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in a related discipline, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
- Ability to evaluate Federal Aviation Regulations and international aviation regulations, and understand their applicability to airline operational requirements.
- Ability to travel 20% of the time while in the role.
- Knowledge of the National Airspace System.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Private pilot certificate, dispatcher, or air traffic controller certification and/or air traffic management experience.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with internal customers and federal, state, and local aviation officials.
- Strong project management and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective communication skills (verbal, written, and listening).
- Detail‑oriented and highly organized, with the ability to multi‑task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast‑paced environment.
- Working knowledge of 7110.65, Air Traffic Controller’s Handbook, FAR Part 139, AC 150/5300 Airport Design, NAVAIDs, and flight procedures.
- Experience working with international air navigation service providers.
- Foreign language.
