The Driver Lead oversees the pre-shift readiness of both drivers and vehicles to ensure deliveries are executed accurately and on time. This role includes supporting route planning, managing fleet logistics such as vehicle maintenance scheduling and issue reporting, and stepping in to cover driver callouts when needed. It requires a proactive, detail-oriented leader who can manage vehicle safety checks, loadout operations, and driver performance while identifying and resolving delivery issues to support continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Driver & Vehicle Readiness: Ensure all drivers complete the pre-shift safety checklist and verify that vehicles are in safe, working condition before departure. Proactively monitor fleet maintenance needs, report vehicle issues, and coordinate routine service to minimize downtime and ensure delivery reliability.
- Asset Management: Ensures all assets including but not limited to vehicles, fuel cards, and phones are signed out before departure and signed back in upon arrival at the end of the shift.
- Loadout Preparation: Oversee van readiness, ensuring that each vehicle is staged correctly for loadout and all required supplies are available.
- Accuracy & Audit Oversight: Work alongside warehouse employees to verify that delivery audits are completed and that the correct products are loaded onto the correct routes. Responsible for ensuring that drivers sign off on their manifest and key audit before departure.
- Driver Support: Ensure all drivers are equipped with the tools and resources needed for a safe and successful shift, including route sheets, safety equipment, and communication devices. Serve as a backup driver when covering callouts to maintain route coverage and delivery standards.
- Route Performance Monitoring: Responsible for monitoring delivery performance throughout the shift and ensuring that productivity metrics are hit. Investigates in real time any behind schedule routes. Escalates all underperformance, exceptions, behind schedules, and escalations to AGM. Reviews telematics to validate traffic situations and other reported delays.
- Issue Resolution & Continuous Improvement: Investigate delivery success issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions to prevent recurring problems.
- Experience in last-mile delivery operations, logistics, or a related field.
- Strong leadership and problem‑solving skills with the ability to coach and mentor drivers.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement process improvements.
- Familiarity with common practices in driver/delivery safety and performance metrics.
- Familiarity with warehouse operations and product auditing procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally with warehouse staff, drivers, and leadership.
Schedule:
M - F 6 PM - 2 AM
Pay: $29 - $31 hr
