Overview

The Republic School District is seeking a dedicated and innovative Special Education Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering specialized instruction to students with a range of disabilities, ensuring they receive a high-quality education tailored to their individual needs. This position requires effective collaboration with colleagues, parents, and support staff to create and implement comprehensive individualized education programs (IEPs).

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Provide direct instruction and support in inclusive classrooms and resource rooms.
  • Modify curriculum and instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and disabilities.
  • Assess student progress and adjust teaching methods based on data and individual performance.
  • Work collaboratively with general education teachers, school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and IEP goals.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, IEPs, and other required documentation.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special education.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate in Special Education (K-12).
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal special education laws and regulations.
  • Expertise in IEP development and implementation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a team of educators and support staff.
  • Experience working with students with various disabilities is preferred.
Licensure and Certification Requirements
  • Missouri Initial Professional Certificate (IPC) or Continuous Professional Certificate (CPC) in Special Education.
  • Certification in Mild/Moderate Cross-Categorical Disabilities (K-12) or Severe Developmental Disabilities (K-12).
  • Any additional certifications required by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Proficiency in using assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
  • Familiarity with behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavioral supports.
  • Training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or other specialized instructional methods.
