Overview

Kimley-Horn is looking for an Analyst to join our Reston, VA office focusing on Aviation Planning. This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities
  • Support the development of aviation planning and strategy studies for state DOTs and airport clients, inlcuding:
    • State aviation system plans
    • Aviation economic impact analyses
    • Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) planning initiatives
    • Airport business plans, master plans, and Airport Layout Plans (ALPs)
  • Conduct research, data collection, and analysis to inform planning recommendations and policy decisions
  • Prepare clear, concise, and well‑structured technical reports, memoranda, and presentation materials
  • Support project managers in organizing tasks, tracking deliverables, and ensuring timely completion of assignments
  • Coordinate with internal team members and external stakeholders, including state aviation agencies, airport sponsors, and industry partners
  • Demonstrate strong follow‑through by proactively closing the loop on assigned tasks and communicating status updates
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment while taking ownership of individual work products
  • Apply GIS and other analytical tools (as applicable) to support planning and visualization efforts
Qualifications
  • A Planning Degree (Bachelors or Masters) from an accredited program in these majors:
    • City and Regional Planning
    • Urban Planning
    • Geography/GIS
    • Aviation
    • Transportation Planning
    • Other Related Major
  • 0–2+ years of experience in aviation planning, transportation planning, or a related field
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to develop clear, organized, and professional technical documents (writing sample required with application)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, follow through on assignments, and meet deadlines
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accountability
  • Strong sense of urgency and self‑initiative to meet client deadlines
  • Detail‑oriented with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment
  • Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with GIS (ArcGIS or similar) is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, client‑focused environment
