Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on Terra Power's Natrium team. Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program, Natrium is participating in a DOE initiative to re-establish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy that provides matching funding to industry to design and build an operational advanced reactor. Terra Power is deploying a 345 MWe sodium fast reactor (SFR), called Natrium, with an integrated molten salt energy storage system.
The project aims to provide energy that is competitive with fossil fuels and to balance solar and wind power output.
This role will support design development of structural (concrete & steel) engineering designs for the project by preparing studies, drawings, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with other designers/engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities- Originate and check Civil/Structural deliverables of high complexity, including structural steel design drawings.
- Originate and check Civil/Structural deliverables of high complexity, including structural concrete forming and reinforcing design drawings.
- Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables.
- Report design quantities compared to estimated quantities.
- Work with CSA Group supervisor to plan, budget and schedule drawing and 3-D model deliverables within the discipline.
- Participate in project design/model reviews.
- Participate in constructability reviews.
- Review vendor information from subcontractors and integrate it into the design solution.
- Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work products.
- Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in executing work as an integrated team.
- BS degree in a related field with 1-2 years of related design experience or AA/AS degree with 3-4 years of related design experience; in lieu of a degree, at least 5-6 years of related design experience.
Basic Qualifications
- Must be a US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in the use of Bechtel standard CAD software applications.
- Experienced user of Tekla Structures
- Must possess experience of Tekla Structures model exchange and interoperability with model tools such as Revit and Smart Plant (S3D).
- Civil/structural design of heavy industrial-type facilities.
- Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Familiar with the provisions of AISC, ACI, UBC, and OSHA codes.
- Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques.
- Ability to issue a clear and concise direction to subordinate designers and drafters.
- Experience in structural design (steel and concrete) for Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.
- AA in civil/structural engineering or engineering technology. Experience with quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000 and/or NQA-1.
- Experience with Micro Station structural suites.
