Role OverviewSeveral combined cycle power projects are planned to be developed and executed by Bechtel over the next 5-10 years. During the development phase, teams will be organized to support multiple projects concurrently. Following project award, dedicated project teams will be formed and the Principal Engineer - Civil/Structural will have functional oversight for all the combined cycle power projects. The Principal Engineer - Civil/Structural will initially be based in the Reston, VA office, with international business travel as required.
Job SummaryThe Principal Engineer - Civil/Structural will support the development and execution of combined cycle power projects in the civil/structural discipline. You will apply technical knowledge to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate the engineering aspects for complex projects. You will participate in project planning, proposal review, and own the engineering elements of capital estimates. Your guidance will ensure engineering aspects meet project requirements within scope and budget.
You will establish requirements to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project s civil/structural aspects. You will oversee design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes to meet unique and complex project requirements. This position is part-time telework per our policy and requires at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project, with schedules determined in coordination with leadership.
MajorResponsibilities
- Plans and conducts independent scope of work and technical specifications for Civil/Structural design and field investigations on large projects or assignments.
- Oversees design, development, modification and evaluation of Civil/Structural components and processes using Engineering Department Procedures.
- Reviews key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, change orders, and bid summaries.
- Evaluates use of structural elements (steel, wood, masonry, concrete) to ensure appropriate materials meet load or stress requirements.
- Reviews complex Civil/Structural deliverables, including steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
- Develops conceptual designs for Civil/Structural projects with specialized or unique requirements.
- Interviews client personnel to determine needs, develops scope for cost estimates, and participates in proposals and presentations.
- Prepares or oversees discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and supports performance reporting.
- Requires a bachelor s or master s degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
- Minimum of ten years experience with self-perform Combined Cycle projects.
- Recognized as an advanced contributor with specialized skill set.
- Considered subject matter expert within the discipline.
- Wide-ranging experience using professional concepts to resolve complex issues creatively and effectively.
