About the job

Data Center Engineering role focused on the physical design of data centers, power and infrastructure optimization. You will generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation with facilities technicians. You will ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements, and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical). The role supports Google Data Center Engineering and related product development and engineering initiatives, solving complex power and energy challenges for Cloud, ML and other Google products.

• Collaborate with team members on creating future data center architecture and design concepts.
• Investigate renewable power generation, storage technologies and other carbon-free energy (CFE) technologies and integrate them into electrical system architecture.
• Create and maintain plan of record electrical single line diagrams and layouts to support rapid field implementation.
• Develop architecture and products that form the reference design for Google Data Centers; implement solutions that enable fast, cost-effective construction and delivery.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration with other teams to adopt the latest architecture into data center designs.

• Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10 years of technical leadership experience with industrial power system design, development and testing (including data centers).
• Experience in infrastructure design of electrical systems.
• Experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
• Experience with electric power industry standards, building codes and safety standards including NEC, ANSI, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, UL, UFC and UBC.

• Master s degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant fields.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• 10 years of experience in High Voltage (HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) infrastructure design and distribution equipment, including switch gear, transformers, protective relaying, UPS, and emergency generation systems.
• Experience with electrical distribution, energy storage, and electrical generation technologies, including other microgrid resources.
• Experience with designing HV, MV, and LV systems.
• Knowledge of data center electrical systems design and operation across HV-MV-LV power distribution, backup power, energy storage and onsite generation.
