Piping Materials Engineer

Job Summary

In this role, you will plan, develop, coordinate and review plant design and piping work on large projects having specialized requirements. You will optimize facility layout based on diagrams, client needs, current technology, and operational and maintenance requirements. Your technical input will ensure configuration compliance, procurement requirements are met, and complex issues are resolved.

This position is designated as part‑time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in‑person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in‑person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.

• Plan, develop, coordinate and review plant design and piping engineering work on medium‑size projects or assignments in support of a global business unit.
• Develop conceptual designs for plant design and piping projects or projects with specialized or unique requirements.
• Examine and analyze pipe configurations for ANSI/ASME code compliance, interpreting new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data.
• Optimize facility layout based on piping and instrument diagrams, client requirements, current technology, and operational and maintenance requirements.
• Provide technical input to meet procurement requirements.
• Prepare or oversee the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and support implementation and performance reporting.
• Review and approve key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders for the project to which you are assigned.
• Mentor plant design and piping personnel by providing on‑the‑job training for their professional development and participate in special technical educational and training programs as directed.

• Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10–13 years of relevant experience; or 14–17 years of relevant work experience.
• You must be authorized to live and work in the United States without sponsorship.

• Prior working experience in Piping Material Specification software (Smart Plant Reference Data SRD) on a medium or major sized project in an engineering discipline.
• Understanding of the application of Engineering Department Procedures, relevant design guides, and broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability.
• Extensive knowledge of applicable industry/regulatory codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, AWWA, ASTM, MSS) and design and/or layout criteria.
• Extensive knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines.
• Skilled in oral and written communication.
• Willingness to travel on business trips in support of projects.

• Prior work experience and responsibility for the supervision on a medium or major size project in engineering management at Bechtel.
• Prior experience working on a large industrial manufacturing facility (semiconductor, fabs or data centers).
• Experience developing, managing, and maintaining BIM piping Fab Parts with defined LOD specifications (LOD 100‑500) for the engineering discipline of Plant Design and Piping.
