At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will help design the next generation of valves for use on our Lunar program. Your scope will encompass the complete life cycle of the system from definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, assembly, verification, and operation. You will own your components from initial design to analyzing data from their landing on the moon!

You will design and perform 1st order analyses to verify your designs. You will work with suppliers or Blue Origin groups to identify and procure components. You will build Lunar vehicles in CAD by modeling valves, propulsion elements, sensors, piping, and other equipment in the flight vehicle. You will size, select material, and analyze flow and structural integrity under pressure, vibration, temperature and mechanical loads.

You will work with suppliers and other support organizations to procure, fabricate, and install flight hardware.

You may mentor entry level engineers and perform technical peer reviews.

Bring your technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities:

* Specify valve types and applications, materials usage, and design for manufacturing (DFM)

* Perform mechanical, fluid, and/or electrical analysis of components and subsystems focused on fluid flow systems and chemical processes as related to valves

* Work effectively with a cross-disciplinary team of engineers and technicians to fabricate and test prototypes and produce results within defined schedule and budget constraints.

* Conduct multiple analysis, design, and test activities simultaneously

* Work with suppliers to specify components as needed

* Engage in both early-stage, long-term development and near-term, flight program hardware design

* Evolve prototypes into flight-qualifiable hardware

* Transfer your knowledge and expertise to the next generation of valve designers, as well as mentor them

* We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Qualifications:

* B.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field

* 8+ years of experience in valve and or mechanical+fluids component design

* Knowledge of propulsion and fluid system components (i.e. valves, regulators and pumps for space systems, propellants, and other fluids)

* Experience designing parts in CREO

* Ability to apply GD&T to create manufacturable, high performing component drawings

* Experience using design analysis tools such as ANSYS and Thermal Desktop to evaluate the performance of your designs

* Ability to define and support testing of your design, conduct data analysis and iterate your design

Desired:

* 10+ years experience in designing and specifying valves

* Advanced Engineering degree

* Experience with static and non-linear FEA analysis (ANSYS)

* Exposure to development of high-reliability, radiation-tolerant, radiation-hardened flight hardware intended for prolonged exposure to extreme space environments

* Experience with component design such as valves, actuators, mechanisms

* Working knowledge of fabrication, integration processes, and quality control techniques relative to tubes, machined components, and welded hardware.

* Working knowledge of aerospace materials and treatments

* Experience with preparing and executing test planning, test readiness reviews, and test conducting

* Experience with test facility instrumentation and Data Acquisition and Control Systems

* Ability to transition between analysis and design to build and test activities

* Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills

* Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment

* Strong project management and team leadership skills

* Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerance
