Your impact
Jacobs is seeking a Traffic Engineering Intern to join our Transportation team in Reston, VA; working on projects that bring innovative solutions to our clients’ challenges locally and worldwide.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our team and be involved in a variety of engineering tasks for our DOT clients; aimed at improving traffic flow, safety, and infrastructure.
The engineering intern experience at Jacobs will provide engineering students an opportunity to gain real-world experience in innovative solutions. Interns will work alongside world-class professionals in a fast-paced, professional setting which provides students invaluable experiences applying the knowledge and skills learned through education in a business environment.
The candidate will be exposed to tasks specific to engineering and planning.
Typical work tasks include:
- Observe and collect field traffic data such as counts, signal timings etc.
- Analyze traffic data, summarize using charts and tables, and prepare briefings and reports.
- Perform engineering studies using software such as Synchro and VISSIM and other analysis tools
- Assemble data and conduct analysis using GIS.
- Support mid-level and senior staff members as needed.
Here's what you'll need:
- Candidate must be currently enrolled in at least their sophomore year working towards a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.
- At least a 3.0 GPA is required.
- Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
- Valid driver’s license
Ideally, you’ll also have:
- Authorization to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship, now or in the future

The base salary range for this position is $42,000.00 to $62,000.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
