Job SummaryIn this role you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.
Major Responsibilities- Work Planning & Packaging:
Prepares construction drawings and sketches; leads preparation of construction drawings and schedules and the design of temporary construction facilities; ensures preparation of "as built" drawings and other job plans. - Material Management:
Initiates requisitions for field purchases; prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment. - Quantities:
Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required. - Safety / Quality Control:
Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely. - Technical:
Proactively considers continuous learning or shows interest to pursue appropriate learning activities. - System Turnover Coordinator:
Develops firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development. - STR / Subcontract Coordinator:
Reviews and approves inspection test plans; coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals.
- Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8‑10 years of relevant experience or 12‑14 years of relevant work experience.
- Construction experience assigned to a construction site.
- Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be undertaken.
- Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
- Displays effective communication skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner.
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Good knowledge and understanding of engineering systems, applications of startup and operations; and previous experience in commissioning roles.
- Broad knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and criteria pertinent to startup, maintenance, operations, or testing.
- Collaborates well in a team environment.
- Good leadership skills & able to provide technical guidance for testing, startup, and operations activities.
- Good knowledge in MS Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and other relevant Bechtel used applications (Aconex, Set Route).
- Understands project workflows from design, estimation, construction administration and coordination, and fabrication.
Physical Requirements
Field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must walk into and out of the project (enter/egress).
Must use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
