Job SummaryThe MEP Lead is responsible for the engineering, coordination, and technical oversight of the MEP scope in the powerhouse, workshop, warehouse and Administration & Control buildings for the Salt River Project Pumped Storage Project (SRPSP).
The role supports EPC execution through design development, interface management, constructability, and construction/commissioning support for a large, pumped storage facility comprising underground powerhouse, shafts, tunnels, intake/outlet works, and surface facilities, in accordance with SRP requirements, applicable codes, and Bechtel engineering procedures.
A key part of this role is collaboration with JV partner, Design consultant and the Customer. The MEP lead shall work with the team to establish regular meetings with design consultant and other external stakeholders as required and reporting cycles for managing, coordinating, and assuring the design.
Major Responsibilities- Perform and review conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design for SRPSP MEP systems and equipment, including 480 VAC and LV power systems, DC and Uninterruptible power systems, emergency power, fire detection, security and communications, elevators, ventilation, HVAC, potable water, sanitary drainage.
- This role will include working with the Design Subcontractor and discharging responsibilities as set out in the Management of Third-Party Engineering, 10G-M41-00013 as part of the BTJV Engineering team.
- Develop and check MEP design criteria, equipment lists, calculations, schematic drawings, layout drawings, equipment specifications, and equipment data sheets consistent with SRPSP operational, reliability, and safety requirements.
- Coordinate MEP designs with Civil / Geotechnical (underground caverns, shafts, tunnels, powerhouse layout), Architectural and Construction.
- Interface with OEMs (turbine generator supplier, auxiliary equipment vendors) for integration into SRPSP powerhouse systems.
- Support and management of MEP interfaces between Powerhouse, Underground works and surface facilities (warehouse, workshop, Administration & Control Building).
- Provide Construction & Commissioning Support during execution including response to RFIs, Field change evaluations, etc.
- Support construction sequencing, installation constraints, and temporary power planning for underground works.
- Participate in testing, energization, and commissioning support, including review of test procedures, energization and turnover sequencing for station service and auxiliaries.
- Support to SRP operations readiness and commissioning teams.
- Review and approve MEP deliverables to ensure compliance with SRP technical requirements, project specifications, design criteria and applicable codes.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, safety in design workshops, and HAZID/HAZOP reviews, with focus on underground powerhouse risks.
- Coordinate and manage the review of MEP deliverables produced by design consultant, including schedules, reports, critical issues, risks and providing feedback to Engineering Manager.
- Chair discipline specific meetings, recording actions.
- Represent the client in technical meetings and Value Engineering analysis.
- Provide guidance and ensure quality of design by independent engineering firms carrying out detailed design, including compliance with customer requirements, local design guidelines and codes, international codes and standards.
- University/College graduate with BS (or Master's degree) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institute with an overall experience of 15 years.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in MEP design for large power/industrial projects and demonstrated experience supporting powerhouse or BOP systems on at least one medium to large scale hydropower / pumped storage project.
- Professional/Chartered Engineer preferred.
- Knowledge of current computer applications for MEP engineering and design including appropriate knowledge of CAD such as AutoCAD, MS Word and Excel for managing design reviews.
- Broad knowledge of US government compliance standards.
- Strong knowledge of pumped storage / hydropower auxiliary and BOP systems.
