Job Summary:

In this role, the Mechanical Engineering Group Supervisor will supervise a team of Mechanical Engineering personnel, estimate project staffing needs, and schedule and assign work. The supervisor will prepare discipline estimates and work plans, review and approve mechanical investigations and studies, and drive high‑quality work plans, successful implementation of mechanical components, team support and training, and project performance. This position is designated as part‑time telework and requires at least three days of in‑person attendance per week at the assigned office or project;

weekly in‑person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor in consultation with functional or project leadership.

• Plan, develop, direct, and participate in day‑to‑day mechanical engineering activities utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
• Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of assigned personnel, estimate staffing needs, schedule, and assign work accordingly.
• Prepare or oversee preparation of mechanical discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manage implementation and performance accordingly.
• Review and recommend mechanical engineering aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering.
• Review and approve key calculations, licensing evaluations, design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders for the assigned project.
• Ensure assigned mechanical engineering personnel receive appropriate on‑the‑job training and mentorship for their professional development.
• Assist in the preparation and review of project procedures and cost estimates for proposals, forecasts, and change orders.
• Manage work process execution and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.

• Stay up to date with new software, automation work processes, technical developments, and their implementation.
• Understand specialist group work process and dependencies between functions.
• Participate in Technical Working Groups (TWG) or specialty workshops and lead or attend national level meetings of a professional society.
• Proactively contribute to Bechtel Technical Information Program (BTIP) and present technical papers.
• Serve as a member of a codes and standards subcommittee and/or specialty task committee.
• Participate in regulatory forums or special technology workshops.
• Prepare position papers or white papers on technical issues under study.
• Prepare and submit technical grants.
• Interpret new or special governmental regulations, engineering codes, standards, criteria, and performance data.
• Provide guidance and direction to specialty engineering or field personnel in the development and/or application of design criteria and design specifications.
• Conduct or lead, as requested, special studies on economic feasibility, new technologies, methods, or materials.
• Serve as consultant to project and specialty engineering/scientific groups, providing advice and counsel on assignments with special and unique features.
• Conduct research, present papers, and keep abreast of technological developments in a specialty, informing engineering management of important new advances.
