The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of payroll operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing. This role plays a key leadership function in payroll system optimization, with a strong focus on Workday Payroll implementation, configuration, and ongoing management. The Payroll Manager will collaborate closely with HR, Finance, IT, and external vendors to ensure seamless payroll operations and system integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multi-state and/or multi-entity organizations
  • Lead and support Workday Payroll implementation, including system configuration, testing, data conversion, and go-live activities
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Workday Payroll, time tracking, and integrations
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
  • Oversee payroll audits, reconciliations, tax filings, and year-end processes (W-2s, 1099s, etc.)
  • Develop, document, and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Partner with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate employee data, benefits deductions, and compensation changes
  • Manage payroll vendor relationships and resolve payroll-related issues and discrepancies
  • Analyze payroll processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Train and mentor payroll staff and provide ongoing system training to stakeholders
  • Prepare payroll reports and metrics for leadership as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of payroll management experience
  • Proven experience with Workday Payroll implementation and administration
  • Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, tax regulations, and wage/hour laws
  • Experience managing payroll for a mid-to-large-sized workforce
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification
  • Experience with multi-state or international payroll
  • Prior experience leading system implementations or payroll transformations
  • Advanced Excel and reporting skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Confidentiality and integrity
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environ
