Position: Lead Systems Engineer (Hybrid)

Purpose

Defines, designs and develops system requirements. Performs trade‑off analysis of performance, life‑cycle cost, risk, producibility, and other system or program requirements. Assesses architecture and current hardware limitations, defines and designs system specifications, and evaluates input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system. Defines system support requirements to include monitoring, capacity, staffing and patching/updating.

Analyzes and resolves program support deficiencies. Conducts independent technical investigations in systems design.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the infrastructure solution, implementation, and daily operations in Microsoft products such as Windows, Microsoft 365 suite, Active Directory and Exchange Server.
  • Serve as the technical lead for Exchange and act as the point of contact for End User Technologies.
  • Implement hands‑on technology work to support solution delivery, including systems integration, development, system design, maintenance, configuration, administration, project management and service coordination.
  • Install, tune, upgrade, troubleshoot, and maintain all computer systems relevant to the supported applications, performing operating system administration, user account management, disaster recovery strategy and networking configuration.
  • Develop and implement techniques to prevent system problems, troubleshoot incidents to recover services and support root‑cause analysis.
  • Evaluate new systems through in‑depth tests, end‑user reviews, software research, and performance testing. Identify integration issues and develop system automation and integration of business processes.
  • Act as a mentor for junior and senior team members and lead a team using a matrix management system.
Supervisory Responsibility

Leads a team utilizing a matrix management system.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science or equivalent work experience (additional 4 years for those lacking a degree).
  • 8 years proven success overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems and applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive experience as a primary engineer for Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory on‑premises, with expert knowledge of internet email delivery technologies and anti‑spam techniques, and hands‑on experience with data center and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience delivering high‑quality operational support and customer service while adhering to SLA and ITSM processes (change, incident, problem, configuration management). Proficient at client communication, coordination with IT infrastructure, operations, and security teams, and implementing policies to maintain a stable environment.
  • Experience managing Office 365 services of Exchange Online, hybrid configuration, ADFS and hybrid cloud identity, Power Shell and automation tools, implementing Identity and Access Management practices, and strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing, and security.
Licenses / Certifications

ITIL Foundations v3 within 180 days (preferred).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to gather technical requirements, interpret business needs, build technical designs, obtain governance approval, and guide implementation.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong communication, customer‑service focus, on‑call support after hours and weekends, documentation, and security best practices around credential and privileged access.
  • Leadership and project management skills, including building project plans, communication plans, and driving quality deliverables.
  • Subject to a Level 6C security requirement covering confidentiality, HIPAA, Sarbanes‑Oxley, and code of conduct policies.
Salary Range

$113,256 – $224,939
