Data Analyst, AI Engineer
Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a part‑time Business AI & Automation Analyst to support the Growth & Business Operations AI team in designing, building, and refining AI‑powered workflows and automation solutions that accelerate Peraton's business operations. This entry‑level, part‑time position is ideal for a motivated student or early‑career professional with a strong interest in AI applications, business process automation, and prompt engineering. You will work alongside IT professionals and IRAD development teams, gaining hands‑on experience applying large language models (LLMs), automation tools, and AI‑assisted workflows to real business problems across Growth, Capture, and Business Operations functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Prompt Engineering: Design, test, and iteratively refine prompts for LLM‑based applications supporting Growth & Business Operations use cases; maintain a versioned prompt library and evaluate output quality against defined success criteria
- Business Workflow Automation: Identify, map, and support the automation of repetitive business processes using AI tools and low‑code/no‑code platforms (e.g., Power Automate, Power Platform); document current‑state workflows and propose AI‑assisted future‑state designs
- Data Analysis and Visualization: Design and develop Power
BI and AI‑generated dashboards to support growth and business operation use cases. - AI Application Support: Assist in the deployment and testing of AI‑assisted tools for use cases such as proposal drafting, competitive research, past performance retrieval, and business reporting; gather user feedback and support iterative improvement
- Data Access & Quality Support: Write basic SQL queries to access and validate data from the CIO‑managed data warehouse and lakehouse (Azure Synapse Analytics, ADLS); perform targeted data quality checks in support of AI workflow inputs
- Documentation & Governance: Maintain documentation for AI workflows, prompt templates, automation designs, and use case outcomes in alignment with CIO and team governance standards
Required Qualifications
- 0 years’ experience required with BS/BA degree or 4+ years relevant experience
- Demonstrated interest or coursework in AI/LLM applications and prompt engineering; familiarity with prompt design patterns, chain‑of‑thought reasoning, and evaluating model outputs
- Exposure to business process automation or workflow tools (e.g., Power Automate, Power Platform, Zapier, or equivalent); ability to map and document business workflows
- Basic working knowledge of SQL; familiarity with data warehouse or lakehouse concepts (e.g., Azure Synapse Analytics, ADLS) is beneficial but not required
- Exposure to data visualization tools and analytic methodologies (e.g., Power
BI) or use of AI to generate business analytics. - Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to translate AI concepts for non‑technical business stakeholders
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- This is a hybrid position and requires the candidate to reside within commuting distance to the work location.
Desired Qualifications
- Hands‑on experience with LLM platforms or AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, Gemini, or API‑based LLM access)
- Experience or coursework in scripting and developing automation tasks
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure or AWS cloud environments; exposure to Azure Synapse Analytics or ADLS is a plus
- Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, or Power Platform for reporting or workflow automation
- Exposure to Alteryx or similar data preparation tools
- Demonstrated curiosity and self‑directed learning in AI, automation, or emerging technology
- Experience with version control tools (Git/Git Hub)
- Proven ability to learn and master new software, technologies, and techniques quickly
$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
