We are seeking a Data Engineer to support a project for the Department of the Air Force. As the Data Engineer, you will design, develop, and implement data pipelines and analytics for applications. This position will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand and address operational challenges using data pipelines and analytics. This is a 12‑month contract with a likelihood of extension or conversion, requiring full on‑site work in Reston, VA.

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand and address operational challenges using data pipelines and analytics.
• Design, develop, and implement data pipelines and analytics for applications.
• Perform Data Ingest, Normalization, Sanitization, Extraction, Transformation, and Loading (ETL) of structured and unstructured data.
• Work with multiple data formats, including UCI 2.0+, CSV, JSON, XML, Parquet, and ORC.
• Develop and deploy data pipelines and analytics in real‑world operational environments.
• Deploy, monitor, and optimize data pipelines to ensure high performance and reliability.
• Implement event streaming pipelines using tools like Apache Nifi, Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, Rabbit
  
  MQ, or ZeroMQ.
• Utilize distributed computing platforms such as AWS Lambda, Dask, or Spark.
• Leverage cloud‑native tools including AWS S3, RDS, EFS, SNS, and SQS.
• Utilize data pipeline frameworks such as Air Byte, Apache Airflow, dbt, Apache Iceberg, and Snowflake.
• Work with GIS data using ArcGIS, PostGIS, and related tooling.
• Implement containerized environments using Docker or Kubernetes.

Experience:

10+ years of experience designing, developing, and implementing data pipelines and analytics for applications in fields such as data engineering, data science, or software engineering.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field with nine (9) years of experience, or a Master’s degree with seven (7) years of experience. Equivalent relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Clearance:
An active TS/SCI security clearance is required. Candidates must be able to obtain and/or maintain a Department of Defense TS/SCI clearance as a condition and continuation of employment.

Technical

Skills:

Strong programming skills in Python, Go, Rust, Pandas, R, SQL, or related languages.

• Experience with large‑scale data architecture in secure DoD or government environments.
• Experience architecting data solutions across multi‑domain or cross‑domain systems.
• Familiarity with MLOps practices or deploying analytics pipelines in classified or constrained environments.
• Experience with cloud‑native data architecture and API design.
• Expertise in data stores such as Elasticsearch, Redis, S3, or Postgre
  
  SQL.

The pay rate for this position is between $65.00 and $90.00 per hour. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on factors including but not limited to experience, education, and skills.
