Senior Resident Services Engineer
Critical Tilt is seeking a senior Resident Services Engineer (RSE) to support a strategic network visibility and cybersecurity technology partner within a highly classified Federal environment in Reston, Virginia. This is a long-term, full-time, on-site position supporting the development and evolution of a next-generation classified network environment. The selected engineer will serve as a resident technical expert for network visibility technologies and will work directly with customer engineering, cybersecurity, architecture, and professional services teams.
This is not a routine sustainment position. The environment is highly dynamic, with teams continuously building, testing, modifying, and validating network configurations and capabilities. The successful candidate must be comfortable troubleshooting in an environment where configurations and requirements evolve frequently. The strongest candidates will combine deep networking and security fundamentals with initiative, sound technical judgment, strong customer-facing skills, and the ability to become a trusted advisor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as an on-site technical subject matter expert for enterprise network visibility solutions.
- Support the discovery, definition, implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and ongoing evolution of network visibility capabilities.
- Work closely with customer engineering, architecture, cybersecurity, and professional services teams.
- Analyze network traffic flows, protocols, interfaces, VLAN tagging, and related network and security characteristics to ensure visibility solutions receive and deliver the appropriate traffic.
- Support integration of network visibility technologies with enterprise networking, cybersecurity, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues within a rapidly changing engineering and test environment.
- Coordinate with local and remote technical teams when implementations span multiple systems or locations.
- Provide technical guidance from the network visibility perspective while collaborating effectively with teams responsible for routing, switching, firewalls, security tools, virtualization, and related infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain trusted-advisor relationships with customer technical personnel.
- Identify emerging requirements and potential opportunities to improve network visibility capabilities.
- Participate in technical reviews, implementation planning, and change-management activities.
- Maintain required technical and engagement documentation.
- Prepare and submit weekly activity/status reports.
- Complete required corporate, partner, and customer training and compliance activities.
- Represent the technology partner professionally in all customer interactions.
- Operate independently with limited day-to-day supervision while remaining an effective member of a larger technical team.
Required Qualifications:
- Active TS/SCI security clearance with current CI Polygraph.
- Ability and willingness to work full-time on site in Reston, Virginia within an air-gapped classified environment.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in network engineering, network security, network visibility, cybersecurity engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking concepts, including TCP/IP, Ethernet, routing and switching concepts, VLANs, network protocols, traffic flows, packet forwarding, and network segmentation.
- Strong understanding of network security concepts and the interaction between network infrastructure, security controls, monitoring platforms, and visibility technologies.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex network and/or security environments.
- Ability to analyze technical problems spanning multiple technologies and organizations.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to anticipate customer and technical needs.
- Ability to work independently and remain productive with limited supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer-facing, consulting, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical personnel, management, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

- Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
Gigamon or comparable enterprise network visibility / network packet broker technologies. Network TAPs, packet aggregation, filtering, traffic replication, packet processing, or related visibility technologies. Cisco enterprise networking technologies. Enterprise firewall and security platforms, including Palo Alto Networks or similar technologies. VMware virtualization or private-cloud environments. Microsoft Azure or other cloud environments, including Government or classified cloud implementations. NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF).
