Global Engineering, Procurement and Construction company seeks an experienced Paralegal/Legal Assistant for its in-house Legal department in Reston, VA. The Paralegal/Legal Assistant will provide support to attorneys in the Litigation & Claims Groups in the Corporate Legal department. Working as a member of the legal department, this individual will provide support for a wide range of litigation, claims, labor and employment matters.
Major Responsibilities:- Support for a wide range of litigation and claims matters, including:
- work with in-house counsel, internal departments, and, as needed, outside counsel to manage the timely response to subpoenas, discovery, data subject-access requests and other requests for information
- conduct document reviews using electronic document review tools such as Viewpoint and Relativity, with attention to items such as responsiveness, privilege, and personal information
- review applicable insurance policy(ies) for coverage and submit the claim/matter to the insurer(s) for handling
- track, organize and file legal documents, legal advice, presentations and correspondence
- conduct internal searches for paper and electronic records, and coordinate and communicate with records managers to identify records potentially responsive to discovery
- work with attorneys to draft legal hold notices; issue legal hold notices through software tool; respond to questions regarding legal holds; and draft and issue notices releasing legal holds through software tool
- communicate with external counsel, vendors, and others regarding legal matters
- assist with initiatives set by the Legal Department
- Maintain, search, enter data into, and create reports from internal databases and other tracking tools used by the Litigation & Claims and Labor & Employment.
- Accept, track, review and distribute legal documents
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- B.A. or B.S. degree
- Strong technical skills including proficiency in Excel, MSWord, SharePoint and Power Point
- Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail
- Ability to handle confidential information and communications in a secure manner
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to work well within a team
- Ability to deal with multiple assignments, to prioritize, and to progress assignments without constant oversight
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in insurance claims management, litigation support, or a related legal/insurance role
- Strong knowledge of insurance policies, coverage types, and litigation procedures
Skills:
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a law firm or corporate legal department
- Experience with litigation, claims, and/or labor and employment legal matters
- Experience with cost tracking, forecasting, and budget management, particularly in the legal and/or engineering and construction industries
- Facility with legal related applications and tools, including:
- document review tools such as Viewpoint and Relativity
- legal hold software applications, such as Mitratech Legal Hold
- invoice processing applications, such as Simple Legal
- service of process applications and providers
- document management systems, such as iManage.
- Experience accessing, managing, querying, and updating databases
- Experience in engineering and construction or related business fields
