Joining the Clean Gen Development team as a Senior Development Director is an opportunity to be an important senior member of a lean but fast‑growing team that is working on a strategic and highly visible new business venture within a well‑funded corporation. The role leads multiple utility‑scale gas‑fired development projects across the U.S., reporting to the Head of Clean Gen Development and potentially managing the internal project development team.
The Senior Development Director oversees the full suite of development activities for existing Clean Gen portfolio projects and new projects, including site identification and control, interconnection and transmission work, project permitting, power‑off‑take arrangements, gas interconnection and transportation, and community engagement. The position collaborates closely with internal power marketing/origination, project finance, legal, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) teams to move projects from final notice to proceed through construction.
This position is designated as part‑time telework, requiring a minimum of three days per week in person at the assigned office or project.
Major Responsibilities- Oversee and directly manage the development team, advancing existing Clean Gen projects from early to construction‑ready status with accountability for budget and schedule.
- Participate in setting and implementing strategy to identify new development prospects and opportunities, including market assessments, fatal‑flaw analyses, in‑person site reconnaissance, and negotiating asset purchase and/or joint development agreements.
- Originate and manage power off‑take arrangements and natural gas interconnection and transport.
- Share natural gas‑fired project development knowledge throughout the Clean Gen development team and broader organization.
- Interface with senior management to discuss progress of Clean Gen build‑out, key project milestones, and financial requirements.
- Implement management tools, processes, and procedures to operate and expand a nationwide renewable energy development portfolio.
- Collaborate with internal power marketing, financial modeling, engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
- Support international natural gas‑fired opportunities as they arise.
Requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent), preferably in a technical/engineering or business/finance related field, and 15+ years of relevant experience or 19+ years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills- 7‑10 years of progressively responsible experience in utility‑scale, including gas‑fired project development.
- Experience directly managing and growing a power/energy project development team.
- Experience interfacing directly with senior management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience identifying and securing new prospects and opportunities, such as greenfield sites and acquisitions.
- Willingness to travel as necessary.
- Experience working directly with project engineering and EPC teams.
- Experience in multiple U.S. markets such as ERCOT, MISO, PJM, and SPP.
- Master’s Degree or MBA is preferred.
