American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU night shift position in Reston, VA, requiring at least 2 years of direct cardiac surgery recovery experience and ACLS certification.
Requirements- Active VA or Compact RN license required
- Current ACLS certification required (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of assignment)
- Current BLS certification required
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required
- Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU experience, including direct primary recovery of fresh cardiac surgery patients
- Experience with balloon pump, Impella, and Hemosphere or Acumen monitoring required
- SSN and DOB required for consideration — no Canadian SSNs accepted
- One professional reference required (two required for candidates from Florida or Missouri)
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
- Located in a hospital CVICU (Cardiovascular ICU) setting with 4 beds
- Cares for fresh post-cardiac surgery patients, including immediate post-surgical and post‑op day (POD) 1–3 patients
- Patient ratios are 1:1 for immediate post-surgical recovery and 1:2 for POD 1–3
- Procedures include care for patients in a newly launched cardiac surgery program
- Advanced equipment used includes balloon pump, Impella, and Hemosphere or Acumen monitoring systems
- EMR system is Meditech Expanse
- Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 36‑hour workweek with 3 weekend shifts required every 4 weeks
- When floating, travelers maintain the same patient ratio as the unit they float to
- 13‑week contract
- This role supports a newly launched cardiac surgery program
- Primary nursing model is used on this unit; unit secretaries and techs are available for support
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
- First‑time travelers are not explicitly excluded, but 2 years of direct CVICU experience is required
