U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) – U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) – Reston, Virginia.

Job Summary

This fellowship provides a 10‐week, full‑time research opportunity to synthesize and evaluate the efficacy of climate adaptation actions within the National and Regional Climate Adaptation Science Centers (CASCs). The selected candidate will review funded CASC projects, collect scope, scale, timeline, and evaluation approach data, and engage with regional CASC staff and project PIs to gather additional insights. Findings will inform a cross‑CASC group in developing recommendations and lessons learned to advance adaptation efficacy evaluation.

Responsibilities
  • Review currently funded CASC projects and identify those focused on evaluating climate adaptation efficacy.
  • Collect information on project scope, scale, timeline, and evaluation approach.
  • Reach out to regional CASC staff and relevant project PIs to gather additional information on project status and lessons learned.
Qualifications

Candidate must be currently pursuing or have earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree in one of the following disciplines within the past four years or anticipated by 6/1/2029:

  • Chemistry and Materials Sciences (e.g., Analytical Chemistry, Bio‑inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry)
  • Computing, Information, and Data Sciences
  • Earth and Geosciences
  • Engineering
  • Environmental and Marine Sciences
  • Life Health and Medical Sciences
  • Mathematics and Statistics
  • Physics
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences

Citizenship: U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or foreign nationals meeting DOE/USGS guidelines for non‑U.S. citizens.

Benefits and Employment Details
  • Stipend:
    Monthly stipend rate to be provided upon interview.
  • Start Date:

    Anticipated start date June 22, 2026 (flexible).
  • Duration: 10 weeks, possibility of renewal on recommendation of DOI and contingent on funding availability.
  • Location:

    Reston, Virginia.
