Lead Carpenter / Mechanic – Commercial Interiors Job Description
This role oversees and performs commercial interior construction work, focusing on cold‑formed metal framing, drywall installation and finishing, RF foil installation, and acoustical ceiling systems. You will lead field activities, ensure high‑quality craftsmanship, and coordinate closely with project stakeholders to deliver interior buildouts on schedule and to specification.
Responsibilities- Perform accurate layout and installation of 16‑gauge cold‑formed metal framing systems for commercial interior projects.
- Oversee and perform drywall hanging, taping, finishing, and punch‑list completion to meet project quality standards.
- Install RF foil and other specialty wall and ceiling assemblies in accordance with project specifications and details.
- Install acoustical ceiling tile (ACT) grid systems and ceiling tiles, ensuring proper alignment, fit, and finish.
- Review and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and project schedules to plan and execute daily work.
- Coordinate daily work activities with project management, superintendents, subcontractors, and other trades to maintain workflow and resolve field issues.
- Verify that work complies with project requirements and adjust methods or sequencing as needed to meet deadlines.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and productive jobsite while protecting finished work and surrounding areas.
- At least 5 years of commercial carpentry experience.
- Extensive experience with cold‑formed metal framing, including layout and installation of 16‑gauge systems.
- Strong proficiency in drywall hanging, taping, and finishing for commercial interior projects.
- Hands‑on experience installing acoustical ceiling tile (ACT) systems, including grids and tiles.
- Proven experience in commercial interior buildout projects.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
- Strong coordination and communication skills for working with project management, superintendents, subcontractors, and other trades.
- Capability to manage punch‑list items and deliver high‑quality finished interiors.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience installing RF foil and other specialty wall and ceiling assemblies.
- Experience in interior construction within occupied or active commercial environments.
- Demonstrated ability to organize daily tasks and prioritize work to align with project schedules.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing clean, precise finishes.

Work EnvironmentThis position is based on a commercial jobsite in Reston, VA. The schedule runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., providing consistent daytime hours. You will work in an active construction environment that involves the use of typical carpentry tools and equipment, metal framing materials, drywall products, RF foil, and acoustical ceiling systems. The role requires working safely around other trades and coordinating tasks in a dynamic field setting, with appropriate jobsite attire and personal protective equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Reston, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $37.00 - $37.00/hr.
