Senior Manager, Software Engineering ( Reston- Hybrid - FreeWheel

Job Summary

Free Wheel is looking for passionate Software Engineer Managers to run an engineering team to design, build and support our high-quality, innovative video advertising platform. Free Wheel helps the television industry monetize premium content through a robust technology platform that enables consumers to view high‑quality videos on any device, including PC, smartphone, OTT device, set‑top box and traditional TV. The New York Engineering Hub is a core part of our global engineering group building a one‑stop solution for the TV industry to manage its billion‑dollar revenue.

Our tech platform can handle billions of daily requests, process terabytes of raw daily data, and optimize clients’ business.

• Manage an engineering team and collaborate with stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements.
• Conduct analysis for integration needs.
• Review design of new software and web applications, support applications under development, and customize existing applications.
• Assist with software update processes and rollout of releases.
• Participate in training representatives and operations staff on internal software applications.
• Research, write, and edit documentation and technical requirements, including designs, evaluation plans, test results, manuals, and recommendations.
• Monitor and evaluate competitive applications and products.
• Review literature, patents, and current practices relevant to assigned projects.
• Provide technical leadership throughout the design process and guidance on practices, procedures, and techniques.
• Present and defend architectural, design, and technical choices to internal stakeholders.
• Lead the full software development life cycle: design, prototype, implementation, testing, maintenance, and technical support.
• Produce technical specifications and assess operational feasibility.
• Review well‑designed, testable, efficient code and documentation.
• Support overall business and solve technical issues.
• Partner with global engineering, product, and operations teams to incorporate collective innovations.

• 8+ years of relevant work experience.
• Experience with C/C++, database design, and network programming.
• Experience with large‑system software design and development.
• Experience with distributed systems and mission‑critical systems.
• Experience managing 5–8 engineers.
• Experience with Golang (plus). Experience with Agentic AI in SDLC (plus). Advertising industry experience (plus).
• Demonstrated expertise in problem‑solving and technical innovation.
• Strong passion for learning and practicing new techniques.
• Knowledgeable about SDLC, Agile, and Software Engineering methodology.
• Team‑working skills; good communication skills; willingness to work under pressure.
• Ability and persistence in technical support.
• Ability to work closely with global teams and accept additional working time to collaborate with them.
• Bachelor’s Degree or above in a related field.
