Rust Software Engineer
Location: Reston, VA

We’re looking for a mid-level Rust Software Engineer to build and optimize high-performance software supporting simulation, optimization, and decision support in mission-focused environments.
You’ll work in a large, production Rust codebase alongside researchers and engineers, turning complex algorithms and research into reliable, performant software
. The role spans backend services, databases, frontend applications, and supporting infrastructure, making it a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys solving challenging technical problems and seeing research become operational capability.
- Develop and maintain production software in a large
Rust codebase - Design and optimize performance-sensitive algorithms and computational workloads
- Build backend services using technologies such as
Axum and Tokio - Integrate software with databases, frontend applications, APIs, and infrastructure
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and end users to translate complex technical concepts into practical software
- Help evolve research-driven capabilities into
scalable, maintainable production systems
- Bachelor’s degree in
Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Applied Mathematics
, or a related technical field - 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong experience developing
production-grade, performance-sensitive software in Rust - Experience developing backend services with
Axum or similar frameworks - Experience with
asynchronous programming
, preferably using Tokio - Strong software engineering fundamentals and problem-solving skills
- Experience working across the software stack, including familiarity with
web application development - Ability to collaborate effectively with researchers, engineers, and end users
- U.S. citizenship required
- ACTIVE SECRET Security Clearance
- ACTIVE TS/SCI CLEARANCE
- Experience with
Java, Python, Type Script, and/or React - Experience developing highly optimized
parallel or concurrent software - Experience with
GPU programming or acceleration - Background working on simulation, optimization, scientific computing, or other computationally intensive applications
