Job DescriptionThe Abraham Lincoln Elementary School is seeking a highly qualified Special Education Coordinator. The Special Education Coordinator will report directly to the Co-Directors of Student Services. They will collaborate with directors, school principals, assistant principals and families to ensure that programs under their supervision are properly implemented. Their primary function is to create and lead efforts to ensure the smooth operation of Special Education services at the school-level and across the district, align curricula, and foster effective instructional practice while ensuring compliance with all state and federal laws.
QualificationsCandidate must be licensed in Special Education and will possess a Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university and will show evidence of at least three years satisfactory full-time experience in the classroom. If an RPS employee, they must have completed RBT’s Studying Skillful Teaching or Understanding Teaching I or Ribas & Associates’ Teaching to All Learners.

Roles & Responsibilities- Serve as the building leader and point person for special education
- Ensure effective delivery of special education instruction and related services at the building level
- Review and approve Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) written by colleagues
- Create and facilitate special education professional development for staff
- Monitor and ensure compliance by the school with all state and federal laws
- Consult with directors and building administration in regards to staffing
- Facilitate student placement discussions, both in and out of district
- Attend and facilitate building-based meetings as needed
- Facilitate the initial and re-evaluation special education evaluations team process
- Administer psycho-education assessments and write evaluation reports
- Facilitate school-based PGT to promote and maintain focus on best practices
- Co-Lead and serve on the BBST Working Group
- Collaborate with Special Education Coordinators and Co-Directors of Student Services on a regular basis
- Develop and expand central office to school connection
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Co-Directors of Student Services, Executive Director of Special Education & Student Services, Assistant Superintendent, and/or Superintendent
