Operations Manager
A US focused gold developer is seeking a Maintenance Manager to support a large-scale open pit oxide gold project advancing through detailed engineering, construction readiness, commissioning, and future mining operations.
This is a senior site leadership role requiring a hands‑on maintenance professional capable of building the maintenance function from the ground up while supporting the transition from project development into construction, commissioning, ramp‑up, and steady‑state operations.
The successful individual will play a major role in developing maintenance systems, work management processes, reliability programs, maintenance facilities, staffing plans, contractor strategies, and operational readiness standards across both mobile and fixed plant assets.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development and implementation of the site's maintenance strategy, systems, standards, and performance objectives
- Provide visible leadership across maintenance teams, contractors, vendors, and cross‑functional site departments
- Support detailed engineering activities, ensuring maintainability, reliability, access, and lifecycle considerations are incorporated into project design
- Develop maintenance readiness plans covering staffing, training, CMMS implementation, tooling, facilities, procedures, and critical spares
- Lead maintenance planning and execution for mobile equipment, crushing systems, conveying infrastructure, heap leach facilities, ADR plant, refinery, utilities, workshops, and site infrastructure
- Establish preventive, predictive, and condition‑based maintenance programs to maximise equipment availability and reliability
- Drive reliability improvement initiatives through root cause analysis, defect elimination, asset criticality assessments, and continuous improvement programs
- Develop and manage maintenance budgets, forecasting, shutdown planning, major component strategies, and contractor performance
- Build and lead the maintenance organisation as the project transitions through construction, commissioning, and operations
- Significant maintenance leadership experience within mining, heavy industrial, or other asset‑intensive operations
- Strong experience managing both mobile equipment and fixed plant maintenance functions
- Experience supporting project development, construction, commissioning, operational readiness, or mine start‑up activities
- Strong understanding of maintenance planning, scheduling, reliability, CMMS systems, and asset management principles
- Experience developing maintenance systems, teams, budgets, and work management processes
- Demonstrated success leading contractors, OEMs, and multidisciplinary maintenance teams
- Strong understanding of MSHA requirements and maintenance safety practices
- Open pit mining, heap leach, crushing, conveying, processing plant, or broader hard rock mining experience highly regarded
- Ability to balance strategic maintenance planning with practical field execution and leadership
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement capability
