Department Overview

We have experienced and highly trained professional engineers capable of providing a wide range of power systems studies and analyses. Our experience includes generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial systems spanning voltages from 480V to 500kV. Our engineers can provide support throughout a project lifecycle, beginning with conceptual design, to implementation, testing, training, and support. We understand that not all substation and automation systems are alike, so we pride ourselves on being able to quickly adapt to your design criteria, philosophy, and standards.

What

You’ll Do

The Substation Senior Designer is responsible for the development of detailed site, foundation, and electrical construction packages for Substation Facilities in accordance with applicable industry codes, standards, and customer requirements. The designer will work under the supervision of experienced electrical engineers and an assigned supervisor.

Job Duties
  • Uses Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Bentley Micro Station, and/or Bentley Substation software to develop 2D drawings or 3D models for substation, site, foundation, and electrical packages. Packages include preparation of one-line diagrams, general arrangements, foundation, conduit, grounding, shielding, grading, drainage, and fence plans and associated details as needed to construct and document installed assets.
  • Consults with electrical engineer and engineering supervisor as needed to develop drawings/models for final construction packages.
  • Attends site visits and/or develops scopes for projects as needed.
  • Understands complex equipment requirements.
  • Understands ampacity requirements for all substation system components.
  • Moderate understanding of grounding analysis and concepts.
  • Moderate understanding of shielding analysis and concepts.
  • Moderate understanding of structural/foundation loading analysis.
  • Moderate understanding of site design concepts, including water flow calculations.
  • Moderate understanding of industry standards.
  • Understands the benefits and cost differences of various substation bus arrangements.
Qualifications
  • Design experience in Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Bentley Micro Station, and/or Bentley Substation required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • 6+ years of experience in substation design.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
