Returning citizens often re‑enter prison within three years of release due to inadequate or negative support systems in the community. The Free2
Succeed program empowers mentors across Idaho to guide individuals close to release or currently on supervision toward community resources that facilitate successful transition and reentry. Mentors collaborate closely with facility, probation, and parole staff to engage mentees in pro‑social and healthy activities, navigate post‑release obstacles, provide emotional support, and connect them with employment, education, housing, and positive community networks.
The Ameri Corps VISTA member will not provide direct mentoring or reentry services. Instead, the VISTA member will build systems, tools, and resources that support IDOC staff and mentors, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the Free2
Succeed Mentoring Program.
