Position: General Maintenance Worker I  Schedule: Sunday - Thursday 7:00am - 3:00pm

Job Summary

EMCOR Government Services has an immediate need for a General Maintenance Worker in Washington, DC
. The work initial schedule is:
Sunday - Thursday: 7:00am to 3:00pm. Must be able to work other schedules as well. This position is covered by the CBA for Local 99.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assisting the Crafts personnel in minor building maintenance tasks. These tasks include but are not limited to: making minor adjustments and repairs to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and sewage systems; architectural and structural building components; interior and exterior entrance doors; all door locks, windows, floor systems, roof systems, roof gutters, downspouts, window and floor coverings.
  • Performing some minor preventive maintenance functions while under supervision, such as but not limited to changing filters; cleaning cooler towers, heating and cooling coils; cleaning floor drains, grease traps, roof gutters, downspouts; and changing fluorescent tubes and other light bulbs where needed.
  • Replace ceiling tiles and make necessary and minor carpentry repairs as needed.
  • Empty drip pans throughout the facility.
  • Perform snow removal.
  • Performs other duties as required or directed by the shift lead or manager on duty.
Qualifications
  • Three to five years’ experience in the operation of central plant equipment, HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and/or electronic systems.
  • Experience & proven ability to safely secure electrical systems for maintenance.
  • Basic carpentry skills.
  • Basic knowledge of operation of building auxiliary systems i.e. fire‑life safety, standby emergency generators.
  • Strong knowledge of safe work practices and procedures typical for maintenance operations.
  • Be able to understand written and oral instructions to perform the work required.
  • Ability to safely wear a respirator, climb ladders, enter confined spaces, lift heavy objects and perform other physically demanding tasks.
  • Safely and skillfully use all types of related hand and power tools.
Physical Demands
  • Work heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 75lbs).
  • Prolong, extensive or considerable standing/walking.
  • Push/pull or move/lift equipment, supplies.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility.
  • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
