Primary Job Function

The Elementary Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader, with a primary focus on early childhood development and foundational literacy. They are responsible for ensuring every student reaches grade‑level proficiency—specifically regarding the Third Grade Reading Guarantee—while fostering a nurturing, trauma‑informed culture.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Early Childhood, or Elementary Education.
  • Valid Ohio Principal License (Grades PK–6).
  • Valid Ohio Teaching License.
  • Five (5) years of successful teaching experience (Elementary preferred).
  • Credentialed in Ohio Principal Evaluation System (OPES).
  • Knowledge of Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES) sufficient to evaluate teachers effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or implementing a STEAM‑centric curriculum or Project‑Based Learning (PBL) frameworks.
  • Specialized training in the Science of Reading or the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
  • Experience leading MTSS/RTI frameworks for early intervention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Leadership
  • Develop, communicate, and steward a clear instructional vision that promotes academic achievement, equity, and whole‑child development for all elementary learners.
  • Lead the implementation of the Science of Reading, ensuring fidelity to evidence‑based literacy instruction and alignment with district and state requirements.
  • Oversee Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plans (RIMPs) and ensure timely progress monitoring and instructional adjustments for identified students.
  • Lead and monitor RTI/MTSS systems to ensure early identification, intervention, and support for academic and behavioral needs.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations, analyze student learning data, and provide actionable feedback to improve instructional effectiveness and outcomes.
School Climate and Culture
  • Establish and sustain a warm, supportive, and high‑expectations (“warm and demanding”) culture that promotes student belonging, accountability, and growth.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school environment that prioritizes the social‑emotional well‑being of young learners.
  • Ensure consistent supervision and implementation of early childhood safety procedures, including arrival and dismissal routines and transitions throughout the school day.
School Improvement and Accountability
  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of the school improvement plan in collaboration with staff, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain systems to monitor student achievement, attendance, behavior, and school performance indicators.
  • Use multiple data sources to evaluate school effectiveness and guide strategic decision‑making.
Personnel Leadership and Development
  • Evaluate and support certified staff using the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES) and Ohio Principal Evaluation System (OPES), as applicable.
  • Plan and provide targeted professional development aligned to instructional goals, student needs, and district priorities.
  • Support staff growth, performance, and retention through coaching, feedback, and clear expectations.
