Specialized Electives Teacher

The Reynoldsburg City Schools' Specialized Electives Teacher serves as an instructional leader and mentor during critical developmental and transitional stages for students. This role emphasizes specialized content expertise, hands-on and experiential learning, and developmentally responsive instruction that fosters the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of every student in alignment with Ohio's Learning Standards, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), OTES 2.0 performance standards, and the District's mission.

Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions within this classification.

Focus for Learning & Instructional Planning (OTES 2.0)
  • Aligns daily instruction, long-range scope and sequence, and assessments directly with Ohio Learning Standards, National Standards, or NGSS in the designated discipline.
  • Develops measurable, clear, and rigorous student learning goals, establishing high expectations for all learners.
  • Establishes and executes a Professional Growth Plan (PGP) driven by student performance data and self-reflection in accordance with OTES 2.0 framework cycles.
Lesson Delivery & Critical Thinking (OTES 2.0)
  • Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction using district curriculum and specialized instructional resources.
  • Employs varied research-based strategies, hands-on application, inquiry-based labs, design challenges, and modern technology to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
  • Communicates learning outcomes clearly, checks for understanding throughout lessons, and adjusts instructional pacing based on real-time student feedback.
Knowledge of Students & Student Support (OTES 2.0)
  • Demonstrates an understanding of adolescent development, cultural backgrounds, and learning styles to make content accessible to all students.
  • Differentiates content, process, and product to accommodate diverse learners, collaborating with intervention specialists to fulfill Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, and English Learner (EL) accommodations.
  • Connects specialized elective content across disciplines and promotes real-world applications (e.g., career exploration pathways, wellness habits, environmental stewardship, artistic expression).
Classroom & Learning Environment Management (OTES 2.0)
  • Establishes and maintains consistent routines and expectations in alignment with building-wide PBIS frameworks across active school settings (labs, studios, gymnasiums, computer rooms, outdoor beds).
  • Enforces strict safety protocols for hands-on activities, physical movement, equipment use, chemical handling, and digital tools.
  • Maintains a trauma-informed behavior management system, promoting student self-discipline and restoring positive behavior in alignment with district policy.
Assessment of & for Student Learning (OTES 2.0)
  • Uses diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment strategies (e.g., rubrics, performance tasks, portfolios, lab reports, code reviews, physical assessments) to measure growth.
  • Provides timely, actionable feedback to support students' technical, analytical, artistic, or physical development.
  • Analyzes assessment data to evaluate instructional effectiveness and adjust teaching practices.
Facility & Resource Management
  • Manages subject-specific equipment, hardware, software, inventory, supplies, and safety protocols within allocated budgets.
  • Coordinates, organizes, and oversees student showcases, exhibitions, science/STEM fairs, coding competitions, concerts, performances, art displays, or fitness events that promote school and community engagement.
Professional Responsibility & Collaboration (OTES 2.0)
  • Participates actively in Teacher-Based Teams (TBTs), Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff development, and interdisciplinary initiatives.
