High School Robotics Coach - Supplemental
The Reynoldsburg City Schools' High School Robotics Coach is responsible for leading, mentoring, and guiding students participating in the school's robotics program and competitive robotics events. The Coach fosters teamwork, innovation, problem-solving, and technical skill development while maintaining a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment outside of the standard school day. This position oversees robot design, programming, fabrication, competition preparation, team logistics, and student leadership development.
Minimum Qualifications- Compliance with all district and state background check requirements (BCI/FBI).
- Completion of any district-required safety training or certifications for student activity supervisors.
- Experience working with middle or high school students in an educational, athletic, or extracurricular setting.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in engineering, computer science, technology, education, or a related field.
- Knowledge of robotics systems, engineering design, programming languages, CAD, electronics, or manufacturing.
- Prior experience with robotics competition platforms (e.g., FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST Tech Challenge, VEX Robotics).
- Strong leadership, communication, budget management, and organizational skills.

Robotics Design, Technical Instruction, and Safety- Guiding students through the engineering design process, including brainstorming, prototyping, mechanical design, electrical systems, programming, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Maintaining a safe workshop environment, enforcing proper tool and equipment usage, and ensuring strict compliance with all lab safety protocols.
- Promoting technical skill development, innovation, and practical fabrication techniques among all team members.
- Recruiting students interested in the robotics club and encouraging participation from individuals of diverse backgrounds and experience levels.
- Planning, scheduling, and leading regular team practice sessions and after-school build meetings.
- Promoting teamwork, professionalism, sportsmanship, and gracious conduct during practice sessions and competitive events.
- Preparing the robotics team for regional, state, and national robotics competitions in accordance with official program rules.
- Coordinating competition registration, travel arrangements, lodging, and event day logistics.
- Overseeing event pit setup, strategy analysis, match scheduling, and student presentation preparation for competition judges.
- Managing team budgets, fundraising activities, corporate sponsor ships, grant requirements, and detailed equipment/tool inventories.
- Recruiting, vetting, and coordinating volunteer mentors from industry, higher education, and the local community.
- Communicating regularly with students, parents, teachers, and school administrators regarding schedules, team expectations, and program progress.
- Ensuring full compliance with all Reynoldsburg City Schools district policies and official robotics league rules.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Engineering design principles, mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, and computer programming languages suitable for high school robotics platforms.
- Official rules, safety protocols, and scoring parameters of major high school robotics competitions (e.g., FIRST, VEX).
- Workshop and power tool safety standards and inventory management practices.
Skilled in:
- Team leadership, student mentoring, and project management under tight seasonal deadlines.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication with students, parents, administrators, and corporate/community sponsors.
