Position Summary

This position functions as a Transportation Specialist (Entry/Senior) within the Project Development Section of the North Central Region and is responsible for the coordination and development of in-house transportation improvement projects in both the design and construction phases. Time frames may vary within each area dependent on workload, staffing needs, and employee development needs. Primary duties will be assigned according to the phase of the project, however, workload may include additional activities relating to the construction or design phase.

While assigned to the construction phase of a project, this position will serve as an assistant construction project leader and performs the inspection and assurance testing for verification and comparison with the contractor's test data. This position will also perform the investigation and resolution of testing differences between WisDOT and the contractor, project layout, as well as public relations duties for construction projects.

This position is also responsible for assisting in completing the studies, reports, documentation, plans and specifications necessary for the planning and design of transportation improvement projects.

Salary Information

The entry level position is in schedule-range 14-15 with an annual salary of $54,766-$61,817, plus excellent benefits.

The senior level position is in schedule-range 14-14 with an annual salary of $64,480-$75,920, plus excellent benefits.

A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

This position requires the ability to acquire the following certifications through the Highway Materials Certification Program (HTCP) and continue to hold valid certifications while in this position:

AGGTEC-I (Aggregate Technician I)

HMA-IPT (Hot Mix Asphalt, Technician I, Production Tester)

HMA-MD (Hot Mix Asphalt, Mix Design, Report Submittals)

PCC-MDC (Portland Cement Concrete Mix Design)

MCT-D (Materials Coordinator Training - Department)

NUCDENSITYTEC-I (Nuclear Density Technician I)

PCCTEC-I (Portland Cement Concrete Technician I)

PCCTEC-II (Portland Cement Concrete Technician II)

TMS - Transportation Materials Sampling

This position requires the ability to independently travel for field work assignments, meet project needs, as well as attend trainings and meetings. Travel may include overnight stays at remote locations.

This position requires fieldwork. This fieldwork can include working in all seasons, including adverse weather conditions and working in high volume traffic conditions, bending on a limited basis, and lifting approximately 70 lbs. and carrying this load approximately 50 feet over varying terrain.

This state agency does not sponsor work visas. This state agency is not enrolled in USCIS E-Verify and is not eligible to employ international F-1 students seeking STEM-OPT extension. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates at the entry level must have education OR experience with engineering principles and methods. (This may include using engineering software, reviewing plats or surveys, reading and interpreting technical documents, construction inspection, material testing, preparing plans and bid documents, etc.)

Qualified candidates at the senior level must have extensive education OR experience with engineering principles and methods.
